Adoption Success Story
Charlie and Benson

Charlie and Benson were adopted separately, but instantly became friends in their new home and are now inseparable.

Charlie’s mother was found on the street in San Bernardino County when she was pregnant, and taken in by Redlands Humane Society. When Charlie was just a 7-week-old kitten, Andrew Baylor and Avalon Howarth saw his photo posted online and felt compelled to drive from San Diego (a 220-mile round trip) to adopt him. “After searching for a while, we were both completely convinced this was the cat for us,” Baylor says. “It’s a long drive, but well worth it!”

Four months later, the couple wanted to find a friend for Charlie. They came across a group of puppies being fostered by a woman affiliated with Furry Friends Rescue in Poway, where they found Benson.

“He had some issues that we had to overcome—fleas and ticks, tapeworms, parasites—but he is now healthy and almost 4 months old. Not only has he become my best friend, but also Charlie’s best friend—they’re inseparable and are constantly playing and roughhousing with each other,” Baylor says. “It’s very rewarding to see our fur babies growing up with one another as pals.”
