Adoption Success Story Tracy

Tracy Dahlkamp’s 11-year-old son wanted a pet so badly that he created a PowerPoint presentation to plead his case for getting a dog. “He promised to take on most of the responsibility of dog ownership,” Dahlkamp says.

The family visited several rescue organizations over the summer to learn about the adoption process. San Diego Humane Society provided a list of recommended organizations, and they were drawn to Baja Animal Sanctuary in Rosarito, Mexico.

“We monitored their website and watched as new dogs were posted every week. In August, my kids and I were traveling back east and my son was in bed, sick with strep throat, when he happened to log on and saw Aero—a chocolate Lab mix—just newly posted. We emailed the organization right away and were luckily placed first in line
for him,” Dahlkamp says.

“We notified my husband of our find and asked if he would meet Aero at an adoption event. He agreed, and a few days later he found himself driving home with a dog. It is actually the first dog I have ever owned, and I’m 40 years old. Aero is now about 7 months old, and is doing great.”
