Join best-selling author Chris McDougall for a discussion and Q&A about his new book RUNNING WITH SHERMAN. Before the presentation, feel free to join Chris on a group run at Milestone Running (2545 El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92104) at 4:30. The run will lead to Elevation Culture, and the event will wrap up with a book signing and prize raffle.

Chris McDougall has never been one to say no. He’s covered wars in Rwanda and Angola as a foreign correspondent for the Associated Press. He’s traveled through Mexico’s Copper Canyons to meet and live with the Tarahumara Indians, the world’s greatest distance runners. He’s run a 50-mile ultramarathon. Run by full moon with the world’s only Amish running club. His Lancaster farm is an ever-expanding menagerie (rams, chickens, fainting goats). So when Chris’s daughters said they wanted a donkey, he adopted one. Enter Sherman.

RUNNING WITH SHERMAN is part scientific exploration of the lost art of connecting with animals, part vivid telling of what life’s like in the Southern End of Amish country, part rehabilitation story, part deep dive into the crazy sport that is burro racing (and the insane training required to run 15 miles with a donkey in tow), and part road trip that cuts through the best of Americana. At a time when all hope seems lost, Chris has given us this: a reminder that people are kind. That, indeed, community still exists.
