On the journey to adoption, dogs and cats often arrive at the San Diego Humane Society looking and feeling less than their best. But with ongoing help from Purina, through excellent nutrition and lots of TLC, SDHS sees incredible transformations that help the dogs and cats in its care thrive. Pets that look and, most importantly, feel healthy are more likely to be adopted, and with the support of Purina, SDHS is able to help thousands of amazing pets find forever homes.

Since 2016, San Diego Humane Society has worked exclusively with Purina to feed Purina Pro Plan to the thousands of dogs and cats that pass through its doors on their journey to adoption. Pro Plan, like all of Purina’s foods and products, is developed by a team of passionate pet nutritionists, veterinarians and scientists based on more than 90 years of research. But the partnership between SDHS and Purina doesn’t end at the food bowl.

Together, in addition to providing nutritious meals to pets in SDHS’s care, Purina has helped fuel funding for the shelter by supporting countless fundraisers throughout the year and partnering for promotions to drive adoptions. In 2017, Purina supported initiatives that have raised more than $1MM for SDHS and helped nearly 12,000 dogs and cats find forever homes. This year, one of many events Purina is supporting is the SDHS Walk for the Animals, which will feature a special appearance by the Pro Plan Performance Team, a group of incredible pooches performing amazing flying disc routines.

“Purina believes that when pets and people are together, life is truly better, and we are passionate supporters of pet shelters, rescues and other pet welfare groups,” said Joan Hurley, Purina Pet Welfare Marketing Manager and proud owner to cats, Calvin and Josie and dogs, Ruby and Pearl. “Together with SDHS and countless organizations across the country dedicated to helping pets, we are committed to improving the lives of pets and the people who love them. The dedication of SDHS continues to inspire our team at Purina.”

In 2017, Purina provided more than 395,000 pounds of Purina Pro Plan dog and cat food and Tidy Cats cat litter to SDHS, giving the shelter one less (big) thing to worry about and allowing them to focus more resources on helping the pets in their care find forever families. And for a shelter that is helping more than 10,000 dogs and cats find forever homes each year, a helping hand – or paw – is always a welcomed sight.
