With the fall and winter seasons approaching, once again Kelly Tomke is activating her one-woman campaign to help keep warm any pets that belong to people living on the street.  “Keep Woofy Warm” began back in 2009 and hopes to thrive this year with donations of used or unused dog sweaters, coats or vests that will be redistributed to the dogs living with owners that are homeless.

She also accepts any dog-related items including food, collars, harnesses, leashes and toys.  Dogs can’t wear blankets although several simple dog capes can be made from one blanket or sweatshirt – all that’s needed is a pair of scissors, two safety pins and some creativity.  Or the sleeves of sweatshirts or kids’ jackets work well by using the cuff as the collar and cutting two front leg holes. These can be a real blessing to a cold dog that lives on the street.

Tomke is accepting donations of warm doggie wear and any other dog-related items at her grooming shop, the Salty Dawg Pet Grooming Salon & Boutique, which is located in the East Village at the corner of 15th Street and Island Avenue.

Cold weather is upon us and keeping the pets of the homeless warm is a wonderful thing to do and often overlooked.  Please contact Tomke by calling the Salty Dawg Pet Grooming Salon & Boutique at (619) 237-0557 or by e-mail at ktomke@gmail.com for more information and hours of operation.

Thank you so much.  Your generosity is always much appreciated.
