UNDERWATER PARKS DAY PHOTO CONTEST
Underwater parks, also known as marine protected areas, help preserve important underwater habitats, yet for many San Diegans these treasures are hidden from view. Help us share in the beauty of these parks by submitting your photographs of the San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park and other marine reserves. Submission deadline: Jan. 6. We’ve all seen waves break along the beautiful California coastline, but did you know these waves are full of energy that could power our communities? Join us for this family-friendly event and discover the potential power within our oceans through hands-on activities and projects.
About Birch Aquarium at Scripps
Birch Aquarium at Scripps is the public exploration center for world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the aquarium features more than 60 habitats of fish and invertebrates from the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest to the tropical waters of Mexico and the Caribbean. An interactive museum showcases research discoveries by Scripps scientists on climate, Earth and ocean science and features nearly five-dozen interactive elements. Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Birch Aquarium welcomes an annual attendance of more than 415,000, including 45,000 school children.
