Holy Cow (And Dog And Cat)! Saturday's Going To The Dogs!
12:50 PM, Monday, October 22

Encinitas, CA -- The dogs at Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas will be up to their ears (and tails) in activity this Saturday, October 27, 2012. Whether you want to learn more about your dog, learn how to train your dog, take part in a (semi-traditional) German "Barktoberfest," or get a leg up on "Howl o' ween"...RCHS has got you covered.

*          October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. This is a really great time of year to add a dog to your family. School is back in session, most of us are on a regular schedule, and your dog will be in the groove by the Holiday season.

*          The October "FREE Dog Training Workshop" by Whole Dog Training begins at 11:00 AM at RCHS. This month's topic: "Dog Body Language 101 - What your dog is trying to tell you." This is for dog owners. Please do not bring your dogs. (Translation: Leave your dogs at home.) You'll learn what you need to know so you can go home and train your dog.

*    "Kamp Kanine" will host their annual "Barktoberfest Kanine Karnival" from Noon to 4:00 PM. Kamp Kanine is located on the RCHS campus in Encinitas. Proceeds from the Barktoberfest are donated to RCHS to support programs and services for people and animals.

*    "Leucadia 101" will host their "Howl-O-Ween" pet parade and costume contest from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. There will be a $5 entry fee for the contests. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Proceeds will be donated to RCHS.

"It's not necessary that you have a dog to have a great time at any of these activities," says RCHS spokesman John Van Zante. "Other than the free dog training...where we do not want you to bring your dog...there will be plenty of dogs to pet."

Do not to feed someone else's dog without permission. Ask before approaching a dog that isn't yours. Remember to bring poo bags, water, and a dish. And DO NOT leave your dog in the car.
