Surf Dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog will be re-uniting with 17 year old, quadriplegic surfer, Patrick Ivison for a celebratory tandem surf session at Cardiff Reef, 2500 S. Coast Highway 101, Cardiff-by-the-Sea on August 19th.
The tandem pair will be taking to the waves at 10:00 am to celebrate their three year tandem surfing anniversary, the quarter million dollar fundraising milestone, Patrick's high school graduation, and their last surf session before Patrick goes off to college at USC's film school.
The duo first surfed together three years ago, when Ricochet jumped on Patrick's surfboard, and kicked off her first fundraiser for him. More than $10,000 was raised for his intense physical therapy, and one of her sponsors, the Rose Foundation awarded a grant for an additional three years. Patrick's dream was to walk across the stage at his high school graduation, which came true this past June!
Ricochet has become a fundraising marvel since that first event. This quarter million dollar milestone came just in time for her August 20th, three year anniversary in the role of SURFice dog. She has held over 60 fundraisers, and donated to more than 192 different human and animal causes which include animal rescues, childhood cancer, K9 cancer, disabilities, wounded warriors and many more. She has also raised more than one million bowls of food for homeless animals with the help of Iams, Canidae, The Honest Kitchen and more.
Most of her support comes from her Facebook page with more than 108K fans https://www.facebook.com/SurfDogRicochet "We are so blessed to have the support of people from all over the world, and we are forever grateful for our relationships on Facebook. Many of these people have become friends, even if we haven't met face to face" says Judy Fridono, Ricochet's guardian.
Next up for Ricochet is an application to the Guinness Book of World Records for "most money raised for charity by a dog". Ricochet will also continue pawing it forward while riding waves of hope as an assistive aid, and ambassador to surfers with disabilities, kids with special needs and wounded warriors.
Patrick is excited to start film school at USC in Los Angeles. He will be accompanied by his service dog, Kona, and will be living independently for the first time in his life. Another big milestone! He was recently featured on the Today Show which shared his remarkable accomplishment of walking across the stage at his high school graduation to a standing ovation full of cheers.
Patrick and Ricochet invite you to join them at Cardiff Reef for the celebration! Paw-abunga!
