Last fall, the California State Assembly declared an official state pet: the shelter pet. Introduced by Eric Linder of Corona, the resolution is a milestone in raising awareness about animals in need.

In San Diego, more than 45,000 homeless animals come into shelters every year. “We’re happy to see that our state also shares this sentiment, that homeless animals need and deserve our protection,” said Dr. Gary Weitzman, president and CEO of San Diego Humane Society.
