Some animals are deemed challenging because of the shy, fearful behavior they exhibit in the shelter. Get them out of the shelter environment, however, and they’re entirely different.

You can help SDHS with their behavior assessments—and change the outlook of an adoptable animal – by fostering a pet with special needs and reporting back on their behavioral traits.

“One weekend in a home environment can give us 10,000 times more information about an animal’s true behavior than we would get in 100 days in the shelter,” Weitzman says.
