Chill your pets out this summer with these easy ideas

Pupsicles

Yogurt-dipped strawberries. Just cut off the stems and leaves, dip in plain yogurt (no sugar added), place on parchment paper and freeze.

Durable rubber dog toys designed to be filled with treats are a favorite. Fill with a mix of kibble and xylitol-free peanut butter and freeze for an interactive treat that satisfies.

For a treat that doubles as a breath freshener, mix half a cup of sodium-free chicken stock with a tablespoon of chopped parsley, divide into an ice cube tray and freeze.

Kitty coolers

You’d be surprised how much cats enjoy plain ice. Add a few bits of dry food to the water before freezing or make a kitty snow cone with watered-down wet food on top of shaved or crushed ice.

Freeze your cat’s everyday wet food and slice into small chunks for a new experience with something familiar.

The dairy and sugar content in human ice cream is a no-no for cats, but they shouldn’t have to miss out. Look for ice cream specially made for a cat’s digestive system.
