Everyone knows your dog is your best friend.

But SDP_Cover_Winter-2015he’s also so much more. He’s your confidant, cuddle buddy, and your no-fail fitness partner. Your dog is never too tired, too busy, or too full of excuses to exercise. “When you get a dog, you gain a built-in workout buddy,” says Dr. Ernie Ward, veterinarian and president and founder of the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention. “You now have a responsibility to get up and get moving!” So lace up your shoes and leash up your pup, grab your yoga mat or your surfboard, and get outside. It’s time to get fit with Fido.

On the cover: With the help of our friends at Found Creative Studio, we picked Sunset Cliffs as our location, and timed it perfectly with the sunset. We brought all sorts of toys along, including the DIY Dog Toy on page 10, but with so much going on we couldn’t get a single game of fetch going. Luckily, we got tons of great shots of Jennifer Sutherland and her pups, Sandi and Kaci, showing off how they get fit.
