When the weather gets colder (even in sunny San Diego), take extra precautions to keep animals safe. Community cats and small animals like to crawl up under the hoods of parked cars in search of warmth, so take a second to bang on your hood before starting your car. Also, be careful with antifreeze—it’s poisonous. Although manufacturers add ingredients to make it taste bitter, it still poses a risk to animals. Contact your vet immediately if you suspect your pet has ingested antifreeze.
