Animals inside!

If you don’t have one already, get a free alert sticker from San Diego Humane Society to put on a visible window of your home. This lets rescue workers know that pets are inside in case of an emergency. Keep it up to date so rescuers don’t go after pets who aren’t there.

Be In the Know

Watch
This warning is issued when weather conditions over the next 12 to 72 hours may be conducive to fires.
Red Flag Warning
The highest alert for wildfires: The smallest spark could start a fire. Be ready to leave immediately if a fire occurs and a voluntary or mandatory evacuation is ordered.

Power Outage

Watch
Outages can occur at any time, but the risk is high on hot days and during fire season. Sign up at flexalert.org for an alert to conserve energy during peak demand.
During and after an outage
Leave one light on so you know when the power is back on, and listen to the radio to find out when it’s expected to be res-tored. Find a pet-friendly hotel, especially during a heat wave or the winter months. Have an alternate source of power ready for reptiles who require a heated habitat.

Earthquake

Watch
Scientists are not able to predict earth-quakes, but have studied past data to develop a risk assessment. Visit earth-quake.usgs.gov/hazards/products/ for earthquake probability levels in your area.
After an earthquake
Keeps dogs leashed and cats in a carrier until they are calm. They may try to run away after an earthquake or during aftershocks.
